Javier Otxoa Palacios (30 August 1974 – 24 August 2018)

Yesterday, former Tour de France stage winner Javier Otxoa has passed away at the age of 43. In 2000, he won the Tour stage to Lourdes-Hautacam by beating Lance Armstong and Jose Maria Jimenez. 

In February 2001, a car hit him and his twin brother Ricardo during training. Ricardo died and Javier was in a coma for two months. 

He became paralympic cyclist and won two gold medals, one in Athens 2004 and one in Beijing 2008.
